Magnetic Island in tropical Queensland, Australia -- Have a look at the beauty and unique character of this amazing island, near the city of Townsville and on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
What can you see on Magnetic Island?
Koalas! Yes, in the wild, sitting up a gum tree or strolling down the track in the evening. We have 'em in the National Park, we have 'em in our back yards.
Native Australian Birds - over 140 species: Magnificent birds of prey nest on the island. See White-bellied sea eagles, Osprey, Brahminy and Whistling kites. Brilliantly coloured birds abound. Blue winged kookaburras, Yellow-bellied sunbirds, Rainbow lorikeets, Mistletoe birds and so many more. Jabiru, Barking owls, Cockatoos of many hues: Black, White, Pink... and you can't get away from the Bush stone-curlews, our madcap bird icon!
Butterflies - by the thousand. Like so many of our visitors, they are winter tourists.
Reptiles - lizards and snakes, of course, it's Australia!
Rock wallabies - and other kangaroo-cousins
... and speaking of rocks, we've got 'em. You like rocks, stones, boulders, monoliths, escarpments, cliffs? yep.
